Recorded in and , this recording finds Pres at the top of his game. His interpretations of Ghost Of A Chance and These Foolish Things are vibrant and some of his best work. Nice clarinet by Hank D'Amico and wonderful piano by John Guarnieri make this an album you must own. Guarnieri sounds just like Basie on some tracks/5(10).

"These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)" is a standard with lyrics by Eric Maschwitz, writing under the pseudonym Holt Marvell, and music by Jack Strachey, both Englishmen. Harry Link, an American, sometimes appears as a co-writer; his input was probably limited to an alternative "middle eight" (bridge) which many performers prefer.

A very nice session by baritonist Sahib Shihab – and one of the most far-reaching works he cut in this country before disappearing to Europe for the better part of the 60s! The album's broken into two different groups – both have Sahib playing with Phil Woods on alto and Benny Golson on tenor, but one rhythm section is Hank Jones on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Art Taylor on.

"These Foolish Things" is an absolute blast of an album - Bryan is obviously having a great time in the studio recording it. For the first but not the last time he improves on an original song with his version of Dylan's "A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall", and although the same can almost be said for the title track "These Foolish Things", of all the many versions by various artists, only Billie /5().

You would have to look at the spine or back of the CD case to know that this album is entitled Blue Lester and not, as the front cover would have you believe, "The Immortal Lester Young."Released by the Savoy Jazz label, this budget CD is a bare bones compilation of various s sessions led by the great tenor saxophone player, Lester "Prez" Young, who was a prominent member of the Count.

A great compilation of tracks from the rare and short-lived avant garde years at the Savoy jazz label! If you know the material, you know that Savoy, almost by accident, released some of the finext avant garde and "new thing" jazz albums of the mid 60s – including rare work by the Archie Shepp/Bill Dixon team, drummer Cleve Pozar, pianist Paul Bley (who recorded here with John.
