Muddy Waters and Otis Spann ceremoniously took young white Chicago bluesmen Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloom- field under their wing with this combined studio-concert meeting. The music isn't particularly praiseworthy, with the scions formal and obeisant, the elders steady but seldom inspired, and the excitement of the day-this confirmation /5(11).

Paul Vaughn Butterfield (December 17, – May 4, ) was an American blues harmonica player, singer and band leader. After early training as a classical flautist, he developed an interest in blues harmonica. He explored the blues scene in his native Chicago, where he met Muddy Waters and other blues greats, who provided encouragement and opportunities for him to join in jam sessions.
